- Phone number: Mobile preferred, include area code
- Email: Professional address (firstname.lastname@gmail.com), never work email
- Location: City, State format ("Austin, TX"). Full address not needed.
- LinkedIn URL: Custom URL (linkedin.com/in/yourname)
Optional Contact Fields
- Portfolio/Website: If relevant to role (designers, developers, writers)
- GitHub: For technical roles
What to Exclude
Full street address (privacy + relococation bias), photo (discrimination risk in US), age/DOB, marital status, SSN, references ("available upon request" is outdated).
ATS Parsing
ATS extracts contact info from the top of your resume. Keep it in plain text at the top — never in a header or text box.
Should I put my full address on my resume?
No. Modern best practice is City, State only ("Seattle, WA"). Full street addresses raise privacy concerns and can trigger relocation bias. ATS systems and recruiters only need to know your general location.
What email address should I use on my resume?
Use a professional personal email: firstname.lastname@gmail.com. Never use your current work email (confidentiality concern) or a casual email (partyguy99@yahoo.com). Create a professional Gmail if needed.
Should I include my LinkedIn on my resume?
Yes, always. Include your custom LinkedIn URL (linkedin.com/in/yourname) in your contact section. 95%+ of recruiters check LinkedIn after clearing ATS. Your LinkedIn serves as resume validation and provides additional context.
